Private first Class HORACE J. MILLER, KIA 38524602 U. S. Army. Lost his life April 15, 1945, at the age of 29 near Waldenburg, Germany.  He was born on October 1, 1915. He was the husband of Geneva Margaret Miller of, 412 Adair Street, Bossier City, and son of Mr. and Mrs. John James Miller, Minden. He attended Heflin Uigh School and was employed by Louisiana Ice Company and Louisiana Ordnance Plant prior to entering the Army Air Forces February 16, 1944 at the age of 28. After basic training at Keesler Field, Mississippi, he served as a member of Military Police at Plant Park, Tampa, Florida, Dale Mabry Field, Florida, and Thomasville, Georgia. Transferring to the Infantry he trained at Camp Livingston and embarked February 16, 1945, for France. He served as a rifleman through the fighting in France and Germany, engaged in patrolling and scouting activity on enemy positions, and was on security duty on outposts. With Company ‘G,” 255th Infantry Regiment, 63rd Infantry Division. He received the Bronze Star Medal (BSM) for meritorious service February 28, 1945, through April 15, 1945, in the fight from the Siegfried Line across Germany. His unceasing efforts and devotion to duty contributed greatly to the success of operations of the company, his citation reads in part. This honor and the Purple Heart Medal (PHM) were presented to his widow in recognition of his courageous and efficient service.
