Fireman First Class KENNITH LEROY MCVAY

Fireman First Class KENNITH LEROY MCVAY, U. S. Navy. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis E. McVay of Vivian, Louisiana, he is also the brother of Sergeant NOEL MCVAY. He was born January 22, 1927. After attending Vivian High School he was employed as welder. Inducted January 27, 1945, in Shreveport Louisiana, at the age of 18. He received his training at the Naval Training Station, San Diego, California, after which he was assigned to the U. S. S. Savo Island. On July 2, 1945, he embarked for the Pacific area where he served in Vice Admiral Frank Jack Fletcher’s Fleet when it went to Mutsu Bay to take over the great Ominato submarine base on Northern Honshu. Fireman First Class McVay has the American Theater of Operations Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater (PTO) Medal and the Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged April 22. 1946, at New Orleans, Louisiana.
