Pfc. Robert B. McAlpine Jr. 38687403, US Army KIA. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. R.E. McAlpine of Morgan Mill. He was born on April 25, 1922. He was the husband of the former Stella Stephens of Morgan Mill. He attended Morgan Mill Schools. He entered the Army in 1944; trained at Camp Fannin, Texas. He served in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. On January 15, 1945, he was serving in Company “C”, 50th Armored Infantry BattalionThe Sixth Armored Division. He earned the Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action in the vicinity of Arloncourt, Belgium, when the lead scout of the platoon was seriously wounded while crossing an exposed ridge, Private First Class McAlpine, with complete disregard for his own safety, crossed the ridge under a withering hail of machine gun fire and evacuated the wounded man. His courageous action was instrumental in saving the life of the soldier. He was wounded on Jan. 15, 1945 during this action. He would return to his unit and was Killed in action, on April 7, 1945 near Mulhousen, Germany, at the age of 22.
