Technician 2nd Class Edwin Smith ‘Ted’ Lewis

Technician 2nd Class Edwin Smith 'Ted' Lewis US Navy. He was born on January 31, 1925, in Skaneateles, New York, the son of Albert Lewis and Abbie M Smith Lewis. He had one brother Sergeant Jack Harding Lewis KIA and one sister Annie L. Lewis Wooster. He was also the brother in law of Lester Barclay Wooster. Before his enlistment Edwin was employed at the Skaneateles Post Office.  Edwin entered  the US Navy on April 12, 1943 at the age of 18. At the time of his enlistment he was 5 foot 11 inches tall weighed 200 pounds had Red hair and Blue eyes. He trained at Sampson, New York; Wright Junior College, Chicago, Illinois, Naval Research Laboratory; Washington, D.C., U.S.N.T, and D.C.; Farragut, Idaho; Ohio State University; Columbus, Ohio. He went overseas on June 15, 1944. He served abord the USS Alcor AK-259; the USS Hammann DE 131. He served in the European Theatre of Operations and returned to the United States in July 1945. He was discharged on June 13, 1946, in Lido Beach, New York, after 39 months of service. He was awarded the European Theatre Medal, the American Theatre Medal the World War Two Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Edwin married Margaret Helen Zewski in 1947 in Northampton, Massachusetts. They had one child during their marriage. Edwin died on October 16, 2006, in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, at the age of 81, and was buried in Skaneateles, New York.
