Lieutenant ANDREW JACKSON KEENAN, JR. 0-1327851

Lieutenant ANDREW JACKSON KEENAN, JR. 38387896, O-1327851 KIA, US Army Infantry. Son of Andrew Jackson and Johnnie May Warner Keenan of Shreveport, Louisiana, was born August 21, 1919. He attended the public schools of Shreveport Louisiana and graduated from Centenary College. On entering the armed forces, January, 1943, at the age of 23. He was assigned to Camp Howze, Texas, from which camp he took part in the Louisiana maneuvers. After making staff sergeant in 1944 he was sent to OCS at Fort Benning, Georgia, and graduated in November of that year. On December 15, 1944, he departed for the Pacific Theater (PTO) where he served in New Guinea and the Philippines. Lt. Keenan was killed in action at Villa Verdi Pass, Luzon, P. I., on August 14, 1945, by an enemy sniper at the age of 26. This was his seventeenth day of combat, from which action he had already received a head wound. The Purple Heart Medal (PHM) was posthumously awarded to his parents in Shreveport Louisiana, June 10, 1946. He served in 128th Infantry Regiment 32nd Infantry Division.
