Private First Class Robert Felix Jones

 

Private First Class Robert Felix Jones was born May 23, 1919. He is the son of Mrs. Laura Cotton, and the husband of Mrs. Lucille Stiles Jones (a WAVE in the US Navy), both of Dallas. He volunteered for the USMC October 21, 1941, at the age of 22. He trained at Marine Base, San Diego. Was assigned to the 9th Marines of the 3rd Marines Division. He was in the Pacific Area from January, 1943, until September, 1944. He was a member of a 26—man patrol cutoff behind Japanese lines at Bougainville for 2 days; he helped in inflicting 11 casualties to the enemy before they reached their own lines. For wounds received at Guam he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal (PHM) by his Commanding Officer at the NAS at Norfolk. Other awards were the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon (PTO), 2 Stars, American Defense, 1 Star. Discharged October, 1945.
