Staff Sergeant DAN W. HUDSON, JR. 38385310, U. S. Army. He is the husband of Jerrye Hudson, Plain Dealing. He was born December 15, 1915 son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan W. Hudson, and was an oil field employee at the time of his induction December 15, 1942, at the age of 27. After basic training at Camp J. T. Robinson, Arkansas, he attended cadre school and trained infantry troops as a non-commissioned officer. From Camp Fannin, Texas, he went overseas August 11, 1944, and fought through France and Germany as squad leader in a rifle company, deciding on patrol tactics, and checking arms, clothing, and rations. He was also a non-commissioned officer in charge of replacements. With Company I, 60th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division of the great First Army, he fought in the Campaigns of Northern France and the Rhineland and was among the assault troops crossing the Remagen Bridge. He received the European African Middle Eastern (ETO) Ribbon with two bronze battle stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, and the Purple Heart Medal (PHM) with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was wounded in action October 19, 1944, and again March 13, 1945, and was wounded by shell fragments a third time but refused to be evacuated. He was honorably discharged at Fort Sam Houston November 16, 1945, after more than two years and 11 months service.
