Corporal Joseph C. Hall 38446231

Corporal Joseph C. Hall 38446231, US Army. son of Edwin Loy and Ivie Eugenia Hall of Route 1, Malvern, Arkansas, he was born in Little Rock July 17, 1924. After completing his education in the Malvern public schools, he was employed as a truck driver until his entrance into military service January 21, 1942, at the age of 17. He was sent too Mobile, Alabama, for basic training and received further specialized instruction at Dyersburg, Tennessee, and Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, before proceeding with his unit, the 853rd Engineering Battalion, to an African port in September, 1943. He was killed in action November 26, 1943, in the Mediterranean Sea, after only 21 days overseas, at the age of 19. At the time of his death he was aboard the British troopship HMT Rohna along with 1137 other people including 1014 other Americans. Historical the sinking of the Rohna is a mile stone in warfare because it was the first successful “hit” of troopship by a German remote-controlled, rocket-boosted bomb, which brought about the “Missile Age.” Corporal Hall was awarded the Purple Heart Medal (PHM) the American service medal, the European Theater of Operations (ETO) medal and the World War Two Victory Medal. He is also the brother of Machinist Mate 2nd Class James Norse Hall.
