Ph.D George Everett Russell 434566 (enlisted number 7335807) was born on January 28, 1924, the son of Ernest and Irene Russell of Long Island, Kansas. He entered the US Navy in 1943 around the age of 19. He served as a Officer on the USS Gyatt DD 712 as a navigator. He was discharged from the US Navy in 1946. After World War Two he dedicated his life to education.

He earned a BA in mathematics in 1947 and a MA in education in 1948 from Willamette University. He earned an MA in mathematics from San Jose State in 1951. He earned a Ph.D in education in 1962 from the University of Oregon.

In 1951, they moved to Beaverton Oregon, where he began teaching math at Beaverton High School. In the following years he was also a counselor, dean of boys and vice principal at the school. In 1958, , he was named the first principal of Sunset High School. He returned to Beaverton in 1964 as curriculum director. From 1969 to 1970 he was the principal of Hudson’s Bay High School in Vancouver, Wash. In 1971 he returned to Beaverton as Assistant Superintendent for Personnel. He held that position for two years before being named Deputy Superintendent for Instruction, the position he held until retiring in January 1985. In 1999 he was awarded the Vergie Ries Award for outstanding service to the Neighborhood Associations.
