PFC Frank Edward Berton 440083 USMC was born on December 15, 1912, in Hoboken, Hudson County, New Jersey. The son of Thomas Bertone and Florence Marie Cooney. He married Clementine Caroline Schmidt on April 6, 1935, in Haverstraw, Orange County, New York. They had one child during their marriage. He enlisted on Aug. 20, 1942 at the at the age of 29. At the time of his enlistment he was 5 foot 4 and 1/2 inches tall weighed 142 pounds had brown hair and brown eyes. He served in 2d battalion, 23rd marine, 4th marine division, from 1943 until VJ day taking part in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was discharge on Nov. 26, 1945.  After the war he worked as a plant foreman for north Bergen Piece Dye works North Bergen NJ. In 1972 he moved from Paramus Bergen County, New Jersey to Holiday Florida. He died on January 20, 2002, in Holiday, Pasco County, Florida, at the age of 89, and was buried in Bushnell, Florida.
