Technical Sergeant, DONALD V FOSTER 31261163 KIA, US Army Air Corps. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 28, 1923, he is the son of John H Foster and Florence (Moser) Foster. DONALD V FOSTER attended Gardner High School in Gardner Massachusetts, Cushing Academy, and Wentworth Institute. He entered military service at Fort Devens Massachusetts, on March 19, 1943; at the age of 19. He received basic training at Miami Beach, Florida; sent to Scott Field, Illinois, for radio training, Laredo, Texas, for gunnery instruction, Tonopah, Nevada, for crew training; sent to Pacific Theater May 24, 1944 and assigned to the 371st Bombardment Squadron, 307th Bombardment Group, 13th Air Force in Admiralty Islands. He served in Air Combat Pacific, Eastern Mandates; he flew 12 long range and 18 short range missions, totaling 230 hours. He was reported missing October 22, 1944, at the age of 21, when the B-24 on which he was a radio operator went out of communication near Tarakan off’ the east coast of Borneo over the Celebes Sea while on a lone plane attack mission on Kornarsocan Airport in North Borneo; presumed dead by the War Department March 9, 1946. Was based on Noemfoor Island at the time of his disappearance. He was awarded the Air Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign (PTO) Ribbon with two battle stars, Presidential Unit Citation, The Purple Heart medal, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, Victory Medal, Air Corps Citation of Honor.
