Sergeant Technical 4th grade CLYDE Walter Hartis EIDSON 34259944, US Army. He was born on February 17, 1919, the son of George Lafayette Eidson and Emma Jane Link of Kannapolis, North Carolina. His siblings were Lizzie, Manuel Lewis, Mary Lou, William Baxter ‘Will’, Bertha Oneta, Myrtle Lois, and Georgia Marie. He entered the service on April 14, 1942 at the age of 23. He served in the 592nd combat engineer and left for foreign service in February 1943. He was killed in action after fierce combat in New Britain. He died on December 26, 1943 on Papua New Guinea, at the age of 24. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal (PHM), The World War Two Victory Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Medal (PTO) were awarded to him.
