Staff sergeant Edward K. Downing,

Staff sergeant Edward K. Downing, US Army. He was born on April 20, 1918, the son of  Don L. Downing and Hallie Bible Odil of, Valley Mills. He attended the Pacel Quinn. He was a Teacher in Brady, Texas from 1938 until he entered the Army, on July 29, 1942, at the age of 25. He trained at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. He served with the 212 Military Police on Iwo Jima and Hawaii. He was awarded the Good Conduct, PTO Pacific Medals with 1 Bronze Campaign Star and Victory Ribbon. He was discharged in 1946. After the war he had a 37 years career with Ector County ISD. Also EDWARD K. DOWNING Elementary is named after him. He died at the age of 83.
