STAFF SERGEANT Carmen Diorio 16135849 US Army Air Corps KIA / MIA. He was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1921, the son of Lorenzo DiOrio and Carmella Jannotta. On October 19, 1942 he entered the US Army Air Corps. Diorio served as a tail gunner on a B-25C-5 Mitchell 42-53349. He was assigned to combat duty in the Aleutian Islands with 77th BS, 28th BG, 11th AF, based. On September 9, 1944, while attacking an enemy ship his plane was struck the mast of the ship and immediately crashed into the sea. STAFF SERGEANT ARTHUR O. KNIPE, and Carmen Diorio were trapped in the plane, but the others 4 were rescued and taken prisoner. He was officially declared killed in action December 9, 1945.
