Sergeant Major James A. Coffman, Jr. 6273705, He was born April 14, 1920 in Gorman, Texas, son of the late James Arthur and Virginia Caskey Coffman, Sr. He married Josephine Coburn on December 31, 1948 in Electra Texas. He served 29 year in the US Army. During World War Two he served in H Company, 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment in the Pacific Theater of operations he Participated in the Corregidor Operation. He served 15 years active duty with Airborne Division and also taught R.O.T.C. at the University of Texas for three years and 11 years in Nevada. He had returned to Electra Texas in 1978 and was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Abilene Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite in Dallas and Shrine Temple in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. He died on March 24, 1985 at Sheppard Air Force Base hospital at the age of 64. He was awarded, The Bronze Star Medal (BSM)The Combat Infantry Badge (CIB),Master Jump Wing, American Defense MedalThe American Campaign Medalthe Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal (PTO) with Arrow head and 4 stars, The Good Conduct Medal, the World War Two Victory Medal National Defense medal, Philippine Liberation medal.
