Private Melvin Lee Clay 20814128, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Clay; He entered the US army on November 25, 1940 from the Texas National Guard at the time he was a Private. He sailed for the Pacific on November 21, 1941; he served with F Battery, 131st Field Artillery; 36th Infantry Division. He was member of "Lost Battalion;" captured by the Japaneses on Java on March 8, 1942; He was held in a POW camp in Burma he was liberated on September 5, 1945; he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
