Gunner’s Mate Third Class Iverson A. Carter, 8072911, KIA US Navy. He was the son of Esther T. Carter, 117 Greenwich Ave., New London, Connecticut. He served aboard the USS Newcomb DD-586. On April 6, 1945 off of Okinawa Ryukyus Islands, he was Killed in Action when a kamikaze struck the USS Newcomb DD-586. He was awarded the  Purple Heart Medal,the Asiatic Pacific Theater of operations Medal (PTO), The American Theater of operations Medal, and the World War Two Victory Medal.
