Sergeant Raymond D. Capps, US Army Airborne KIA

 

Sergeant Raymond D. Capps, United States Army Airborne Killed in Action. He was born on October 27, 1918, in Ashdown, Arkansas. He is the son of George T Capps and Myrtle M. Capps, and husband of Mrs. Alta Mae Capps, both of Tyler, Texas. He received his education in the New London Elementary and High Schools. He entered the service on February 19, 1943, at the age of 24 he was assigned to the US Army. He served in Company E, 2nd Battalion, 188th Glider Infantry, 11th Airborne Division; he trained at MacKall, North Carolina, and Camp Polk, Louisiana; and served overseas from May, 1944, to January, 1945, in New Guinea, Leyte and Luzon in the Philippine Islands. Sergeant Raymond D. Capps was killed in Action on January 31, 1945, in Luzon, Philippine Islands, at the age of 26. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
