Technician Fifth Grade THOMAS (EDWARD) BURNS 38066244 US Army 1st cavalry division. He was born in 1915, and lived at Route 1, Munday, Texas. He entered the US Army on March 12, 1941, and service: Field Artillery. He trained at Fort Bliss, Texas; Brisbane, Australia. He went overseas on July 3, 1943. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, with the 1st cavalry division, at New Guinea, Admiralty Islands, Leyte, Luzon. He was with the first troops to enter the city of Manila, Philippine Islands and later took part in the liberation of the 3,700 allied internes held by the Japanese at Santo Tomas University. He returned to the United States in August 14, 1945, and was discharged August 24, 1945 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, after serving 53 months in the US Army. He was awarded the Asiatic- Pacific Theatre Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars on it, the Good Conduct medal. As of 1947 his occupation was Farming.
