Captain August John Bischoff

Captain August John Bischoff was born in California on March 30, 1920, He is the son of Mrs. A. J. Bischoff of Rockwall, and the husband of Madelyn Tucker Bischoff of Garland Texas. Attended Texas A&M, and volunteered for the Army on June 15, 1941 at the age of 21. He was assigned to the Army Chemical Warfare Service, training at Edgewood Arsenal and Camp Sibert, and on April 23, 1943, was transferred to the Air Corps and was at Maxwell Field, Fla., before going to Europe in May of 1944. Captain Bischoff served in 82nd Fighter Group, 8th Army Air Force and flew 10 missions over Hungary, Nice, Genova, Munich, and Ploesti, On June 10, 1944, he was shot down over Romania while flying a P—38 Lightning fighter plane. Was awarded the Distinguished Unit Badge (PUC), Aviation Badge (Pilot), Expert Badge (Aerial Gunner), ETO Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars for the campaigns of Rome—Arno, Balkans, and offensive of Europe, Was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart (PHM). He graduated from high school and college with high honors, and was a 2nd Lt. at A & M College.
