PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ORFEO BIANCHI, 31032383 KIA US Army. Private Bianchi graduated from Haverhill High School in 1933. He was a member of the school band. Before entering the Army on March 21, 1941, he was employed at the Merker Counter Company. Private Bianchi was sent to Camp Edwards, Mass., for his basic training, and was then assigned to the 182nd Infantry, 23rd Infantry Division “America Division” Band. He participated in the various maneuvers of his unit until January 23, 1942, when he was sent overseas. He served Headquarters Company., 182nd Infantry, 23rd Infantry Division “America Division” He landed in Australia, and after a stay of one week, was transported to New Caledonia where he remained for about eight months. In November, 1942, his unit reinforced the troops at Guadalcanal. Shortly after reaching the island he was wounded by shrapnel and hospitalized. He died of those wounds in a hospital on November 17, 1942. Private Bianchi leaves his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Bianchi, 5 Arch Ave. ; his mother, Mrs. Ida Bianchi, 225 River St., one brother, and two sisters.
