Technical Sergeant ​JOHN H. VAN AMBURGH, JR. 38629534, son of Mrs. J, H. Van Amburgh, Sr., of Dallas, was born November 3, 1925. He entered Army service on Jan. 19, 1944, at the age of 18. He was assigned to the Infantry, training at Camp Wolters, Camp Croft, Camp Shelby, and Camp Kilmer. He served overseas from November, 1944, to April, 1946, in Europe. He was stationed in England, France, Belgium, and Germany, and participated in the Rhineland Campaign and Central Europe Campaign. Sgt. Van Amburgh was with the 69th Infantry Division until VJ Day, when he was transferred to 60th ordnance group, headquarters, where he served as Sergeant. He also participated in the Occupation of Germany. His awards are: Bronze Star Medal (BSM), expert Rifleman, Combat Infantry Badge (CIB), European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal (ETO), Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged May 5, 1946.
