Pharmacist Mate, 1st Class ROGER ROBERT ALLEN 6086907

Roger Robert Allen, 6086907 was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Allen of Batavia, New York, he was born December 25, 1922 in Batavia. The family moved to Attica where Roger graduated from Attica High School in 1940. He studied accounting at Stratford Graduate School in Buffalo and took a position with Westinghouse Electric Company, in Attica. On March 8, 1944 he married Donna Willey of Los Angeles.

In October 1942, Roger enlisted in the Navy in Buffalo. After boot training at Great Lakes Naval Training Station he was assigned to the Navy Medical Corps and trained with Marines at three bases in California. Navy Medical Corpsmen go ashore with the Marines in all engagements unarmed and have won high praise for their work of mercy under fire. As a medic Roger wore the Marine uniform serving with the Leathernecks. He was assigned to the 1st Marine Division, H & S Company, 8th Amphibious Tractor Battalion. Roger ALLEN’s last letter came from Pelelieu which the Marines were wresting from Japanese control. Pharmacist Mate, 1st Class Roger Allen was killed in action October 5, 1944. He was survived by his widow, his parents and two sisters, Virginia and Marilyn. He was Awarded the Purple Heart Medal the American Theater Medal, the , Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal (PTO) , and The World War Two Victory Medal.
