Allan John R. Army Air Corps 588th AA BU 11th Airborne 27th Division PTO ALLAN, JOHN F. '40 In Army January 22, 1942 to February 14, 1946 Captain-Air Transport Command, Pilot, 5 88th AA BU. "I entered aviation cadet pilot training in January of 1942 and after nine months training at Randolph and Kelly Field, I grad-uated as a second lieutenant, 1n the Air CorpsReserve. "M y first station was the 3rd Ferrying Division at Romulus, Michigan where I ferried all types of pursuit, light, medium and heavy bombers to Alaska, Panama, Africa, Italy, England, India and the Soathwest Pacific bases. "My next station was the Air 'Transport Command at Presque Isle, Maine where I flew only the C -54. Our job here was to fly to England and France via Greenland and IceL:ind or the Azores Islands and rnsh the wounded from battle jronts to New York for special operations. After Germany su.rrendered and our wounded were all returned we were ftying the high point infantrymen home for discharge. "Upon the S1.o-render of Japan, I w.as transferred to Okinawa to fl::,, in the first occupation forces , consisting of the 11th a Jr borne Division and the 27th Inf an try Division, to 'T okyn. 'Thirty da ys later I was transferred to India to assist in flying the Chinese occupation troops from Kunming to Shanghai. I returned to the States 1n December and was discharged January 11 , 1946 at McClellan Field, Californ ia."
