Fireman Third Class GEORGE AUBRY PATTERSON, JR. KIA MIA, U. S. Navy. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Patterson, Sr., of 2415 Midway Street, Alexandria, Louisiana. He was born May 18, 1905, attended Bolton High School, and was a printer with the Alexandria Town Talk paper for eighteen years prior to entering the service. Inducted December 29, 1941, in New Orleans, at the age of 36 he received his training at the Naval Operating Base at Norfolk, Virginia, after which he was assigned to duty aboard the USS Vincennes. On February 27, 1942, he embarked for the South Pacific (PTO) where he participated in the battles at Midway, Coral Sea, and the Solomon Islands. He went down with his ship, the USS Vincennes, on August 9, 1942, off the Savo Islands. He died at the age of 37. The Purple Heart was awarded posthumously to his parents on May 8, 1944. He is also the brother of LAWRENCE DEAR PATTERSON.
