B-24D #41-1117 was part of the 66th Bomber Squadron, 44th Bomber Group On May 18th, 1942, B-24D #41-1117 took off from Barksdale, Louisiana on a routine training flight of anti-submarine patrol mission over the Gulf of Mexico, the crew were killed when an electric storm crashed the bomber against a tree.
