Sergeant WILLIAM LEE BAGGETT 38171246, U. S. Army. Brother of Private AL DANIEL BAGGETT KIA, Sergeant SIDNEY LANIER BAGGETT KIA, Private First Class OSCAR REW BAGGETT. Husband of Abbie Ruth Baggett, 1833 Southern Ave., Shreveport, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar G. Baggett. He is a graduate of Fair Park High School and Meadows Draughon Business College, and entered the Signal Corps May 15, 1942 around the age of 25. He received infantry basic with Company D, 117th Infantry, 30th Division, and was a radio operator with Signal Company, 30th Division, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and at Camp Blanding. He was clerk with the same company at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. On February 12, 1944, he embarked for England (ETO) and served with the same company through France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. He landed on Normandy Beachhead June 13, 1944 (D-Day plus 7) and was in combat to the Elbe. He fought in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes, and Central Germany. He was at St. Lo, and his division was hit by four German divisions at Mortain in an effort to cut the 1st and 3rd U. S. Armies. He was at Aachen and Malmedy. He has the Bronze Star Medal (BSM) and Good Conduct Medals, and ETO Ribbon with battle stars.
