Sergeant SIDNEY LANIER BAGGETT 38187519 KIA, Army Air Forces. Brother of Private AL DANIEL BAGGETT KIA, Sergeant BAGGETT WILLIAM LEE 38171246 Private First Class OSCAR REW BAGGETT. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar G. Baggett of, 1833 Southern Avenue, Shreveport Louisiana. He was born June 15, 1921, and was a graduate of Fair Park High School. Entering the Army Air Forces in August, 1942 at the age of 21. He attended Aerial Gunner’s School, St. Petersburg, Florida, Navigator’s School, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Radio Operator’s School, Clovis Field, Alamogordo, New Mexico. He went to New Guinea and served at Amberley, Australia, on submarine patrol duty and at Port Moresby, New Guinea, on bombing missions as a gunner. He fought in New Guinea, Hollandia, Aitape, Palau, Rabaul, Dagua, Wewak, Makassar, and Salamana (PTO). He served in 320th Bomber Squadron, 90th Bomber Group, Heavy, 5th Army Air Corp. He was awarded the Air Medal, the Citation of Honor, and Presidential Unit Citation and the Purple Heart Medal (PHM). Sergeant Baggett was killed in action on a bombing mission over Wewak in New Guinea on December 1, 1943, and was reported missing in action as of that date at the age of 22. He was declared dead by the War Department on January 22, 1946.
