Sergeant Alfred A. Kingham 36567860 KIA

Sergeant Alfred Anthony Kingham 36567860 US Army KIA. He was born on June 13, 1922 in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada. Alfred A. Kingham was the son of Harry Joseph Kingham and Mary Florence MacDonald Kingham. He had two brothers, Elmer Lafayette Kingham  (1923 – 2017) and Ronald Harry Kingham (1925 – 2001). Alfred grew up in Michigan. He enlisted in the US Army on February 12, 1943, at the age of 20.  Alfred served with the 553rd Pontoon (Heavy) Engineer Battalion. On September 12, 1944 while serving in the 553rd Engineer Heavy Pontoon Battalion, Sergeant Kingham was killed in Dieulouard France, while building a pontoon bridge across the Moselle River near Dieulouard. The bridge he died building was used by the 80th Infantry Division.  His body was returned to the United States in 1949 and interred at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery in Troy, Michigan. He had a Roman Catholic funeral.
