The Second Air Force was activated on December 18, 1940 at McChord Field Washington. It served as the Northwest Air District.  From December 1941 until May 1945 the 2nd Air force trained 14,000 Bomber crews that would go to Europe and fight in the 8th Army Air Force and 15th Army Air Force.
