Private Benjamin James Blancate 31324244 US Army KIA. He was born in New Britain Connecticut, on January 7, 1922. Private Blancate attended the local schools, and was graduated from Senior High School in 1939. He worked at Standard Steel Co., Plainville, Conn., and later entered the employ of the Post Office as a substitute clerk. He was a well-known drummer and played with several local bands, and spent most of his leisure time making recordings with the band. He received a dedication from his fellow musicians. He took part in the ASTP program at LAKE FOREST COLLEGE. He entered the US Army on February 19, 1943, at the age of 21, in New Britain, Hartford, Connecticut, At the time of his enlistment he was 6 feet tall 180 pounds had brown eyes and brown hair. He served in Company B, 383rd Infantry Regiment, 96th Infantry Division. He was KILLED IN ACTION ON LEYTE on OCTOBER 26, 1944, at the age of 22. He was awarded the American Theater Medal, World War Two Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS and BRONZE ARROWHEAD, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, PURPLE HEART MEDAL (PHM).
