He was born on October 9, 1914, the son of James and Nealie Wensil, and husband of Mrs. Josie Barger Wensil and father of Ronald Glenn Wensil of Concord, North Carolina. At the time of his enlistment he was 5 foot 10 inches 135 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He enlisted in the army on August 19, 1942, at the age of 27. He served in the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division in foreign theaters from April 1943 until he was killed in North Africa 17 September 1943, at the age of 28. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal (ETO) and the Purple Heart Medal (PHM).
