Private First Class JAMES RALPH SMART 38390726, U. S. Army. Husband of Allie Mae Smart of, 3147 West College St., Shreveport Louisiana, and father of Linda Smart. He was born July 11, 1908, and is the son of Mrs. Miriam Smart of 222 Robinson Place, Shreveport Louisiana. He attended school in Leesville and was employed by H. H. Bain Roofing Company prior to entering service April 19, 1943, in Shreveport Louisiana at the age of 34. He was assigned to duty at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, as a supply clerk, and went to Camp Crowder, Missouri, May 18, 1944, with the Signal Corps as duty sergeant. On March 6, 1945, he embarked for Europe and served in France and Germany (ETO) with the Corps of Engineers as an operator of heavy equipment. He served as a member of the 693rd Base Equipment Company. He fought in the Campaign of Central Europe. On his return to the States after the cessation of war in Europe he was granted his honorable discharge November 7, 1945, at Camp Shelby.
