Gunner’s Mate, 2nd Class J. H. Scheible

Gunner’s Mate, 2nd Class J. H. Scheible US Navy. Born 19 December 1925 in Braymer, Missouri. Attended Bunker Hill and Kirk, Colorado, high school, and entered service on 23 May 1943, at the age of 17, immediately after graduation. Trained at Farragut, Idaho, and was assigned to USS WILSON (DD408). Served in Hawaii, Solomons, Philippines; and took part in the Invasion and occupation of Okinawa, where his unit saw intense fighting and was credited with shooting down 13 enemy planes. Gunner’s Mate Scheible had further duty in the Marshalls and Marianas (PTO). He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Scheible of Alamosa, Colorado.
