Storekeeper Third Class HAROLD R. REID,
Storekeeper Third Class HAROLD R. REID, U. S. Navy. Husband of Evelyn A. Reid, and father of Mary Louise Reid, Box 642, Vivian, Louisiana. He was born October 15, 1921, and attended Belcher High School and Louisiana State University. Prior to entering the service he was employed by the Louisiana State Department of Highways. Inducted November 5, 1943, at the age of 22. He received his training at the U. S. Naval Training Station, San Diego, California; U. S. Naval Small Craft Training Center, Terminal Island, California; and the U. S. Naval Training and Distribution Center, San Diego. On July 5, 1944, he embarked for the Pacific area where he served aboard the USS Mt. McKinley (AGC 7), participating in the campaigns of Pelilieu, Southern and Northern Philippines, and Okinawa. He has the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations Medal with four bronze stars, the Philippine Liberation Medal, with one battle star, the American Theater of Operations Medal, and the Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged February 25, 1946, at New Orleans. He is the son of Susie H. Reid, Gilliam, Louisiana.
