On January 15, 1940 it was activated at Ft Benning Ga assigned to the 2nd Armored Division and moved to Camp Beauregard La May 11, 1940 for maneuvers; returned to Ft Benning Ga June 2, 1940 where reassigned the 66th Armored Regiment (Light) on July 15, 1940. Assigned to the 2nd Armored Division; and moved to Monroe N.C. July 10, 1942, and to Fort Bragg N.C. Aug. 15, 1942; reassigned 66th Armored Regiment Jan 1, 1942; staged at Fort Dix N.J. Nov 7, 1942 (less 1st Bn which assaulted North Africa Nov. 8, 1942) until departed New York. P/E Dec. 11, 1942 and landed North Africa Dec. 25. 1942; assaulted Licata Sicily July 10, 1943 and sent to England Nov. 25, 1943; landed in France June 9, 1944 and crossed into Belgium Sept. 2, 1944 and into Holland Sept. 16, 1944; first entered Germany Sept. 19, 1944 and returned to Belgium Dec. 22, 1944 and to Holland Feb. 3, 1945; reentered Germany Feb. 24, 1945; returned New York P/E Jan. 29, 1946 and moved to Camp Hood Texas Feb. 4 1946; inactivated there March 25, 1946. Campaigns: Algeria-French Morocco, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, Central Europe.
