SGT Stephen P. “Chip” Yenchik

Sergeant Stephen Peter “Chip” Yenchik 13026106 US Army. He was born on March 18, 1925, in Ashley, Pennsylvania, He was the son of Stephen Yenchik and Ester Miller Tudgay. He was the brother of Lawrence Yenchik and Leonard Yenchik. He married Ann Smith Yenchik on September 11, 1943. He entered the US Army on Dec 10, 1941. He served in the 490th Ambulance Company and transferred into Company C, 255th Infantry, 63rd Infantry Division on May 21, 1944. He trained with the 63rd division at Camp Van Dorn Mississippi. On Dec 25, 1944 he and 16 other men were transferred from Company C, 255th Infantry, to the 90th Infantry Division. PFC Yenchik entered Company B, 357th Infantry, 90th Infantry Division on Dec 25, 1944. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded his Purple Heart Medal on May 9, 1945 at the 251st General Hospital for the wounds he received on April 21, 1945. At the time of his discharge he was 5 foot 8 inches tall weighed 165 pound he had brown hair and blue eyes. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badgethe Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart MedalThe American Theater of operations Medalthe European Theater of Operations Medal ETO with battle stars, the World War Two Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation MedalHe died on October 7, 2004, in Trenton, New Jersey, at the age of 79.
