Cpl. Joe Wallace Merriman 38046966 US Army Air Corps. He was born on March 13, 1918 in Garland Texas. He was the son of Krouth Omer (K.O.) Merriman and Correllia Ethal “Carrie” Wallace Merriman. He was married to Fronia Elizabeth “Beckie” Anderson Merriman. He entered the US Army Air Corps on December 8, 1941 the day after Pearl Harbor at the age of 23. At the time of his enlistment he was 5 foot 10 inches tall weighed 190 pounds had brown hair and blue eyes. He served overseas as a cook in the 308th Bombardment Wing in Philippines and Okinawa. He was awarded the  The American Campaign Medalthe Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal (PTO)The Good Conduct Medal, and the World War Two Victory Medal.

 After returning home from military service, he spent his life farming like his father and grandfather before him. Some of his happiest times were spent plowing the earth and working the soil. Joe and Beckie moved to Sherman in 1965. They kept busy with travel and church activities. Joe loved gardening and sharing the produce with friends and family. He died on January 23, 2009, in Garland Texas at the age of 90. He was buried at Restland Cemetery in Dallas Texas.
