2nd Lt. Albert Mitchell Sloop 0-535249 KIA / DOW

2nd Lieutenant Albert Mitchell Sloop O-535249 US Army KIA DOW. He was born on September 9, 1922 in Kannapolis, North Carolina. He was the son of Everett Albert Sloop and Nokie McGinnis Sloop of Kannapolis, North Carolina. His brother was LTJG Hoyt Oberlee Sloop. Albert entered the service August 5, 1943 at the age of 20. At the time of his enlistment he was 5 foot 11 inches tall weighed 165 pounds had Gray eyes and Brown hair. He went overseas in August 1944. He served in L Company, 253rd Infantry Regiment, 63rd Infantry Division. He transferred to K Company, 253rd Infantry Regiment, 63rd Infantry Division on March 18, 1945. He was wounded in action on April 12, 1945 near Lampoldshausen, Germany he received Shell Fragment to the head. Lieutenant Sloop may have been the Lieutenant that PFC Eugene Bennett Reich carried off the battlefield on April 12, 1945 the other person it may have been is Lieutenant Sterling Womack LeJEUNE. Lieutenant Sloop died of his wounds on April 27, 1945 at the age of 22. He was awarded the Bronze Stare Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, The American Theater of operations Medal, The European African Middle Eastern Theater of operations Medalthe World War Two Victory Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge.
