He served on Luzon, and the Philippines. He served in the US Army for 20 months, until June 17, 1945, at the age of 30 one day before his 31st birthday, when he was Killed in Action. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart Medal, the Bronze Star Medal. His body was returned to the US in 1948.
