T/5 John Peter Karaska 42009944 US Army. He was born on March 23, 1915, in Newark, New Jersey he was the son of John Karaska and Anna Peroncik Karaska. At the time of his enlistment he was married to Gertrude Lillian Olmsted Karaska. John entered the US Army on August 18, 1943 in Newark New Jersey, at the age of 28. At the time of his enlistment he was 5 foot 9 inches tall weighed 150 pounds had gray eyes and brown hair. He transferred to Camp Van Dorn Mississippi into the Antitank Company of the 253rd Infantry Regiment, 63rd Infantry Division, on September 16, 1943.  He transferred in to the Medical Detachment of the 253rd Infantry Regiment on January 28, 1944. He transferred into 763rd Ordnance Company on October 2, 1944 he served with them in combat. He transferred out 763rd Ordnance Company,  63rd Infantry Division, on August 5, 1945, but was still in the 7th Army. He was discharged from the US Army on May 7, 1946. He was Awarded  the Good Conduct Medal, The American Theater of operations, the European Theater of Operations Medal ETO with 2 battle star, the World War Two Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal. He died on April 8, 1978, in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, at the age of 63.
