Private First Class CHARLES AUGUSTUS IVINS

Private First Class CHARLES AUGUSTUS IVINS, U. S. Army. The son of Augustus and Bessie Lee Ivins of Vivian, Louisiana, he was born May 22, 1925. After attending Vivian High School, he was employed as a Sales Clerk. Inducted August 27, 1943, at the age of 18. He received his Infantry training at Camp Fannin, Texas, and Camp Van Dorn, Mississippi where he served in Company ‘G,” 255th Infantry Regiment, 63rd Infantry Division. On August 2, 1944, he embarked for the European area where he served with the 10th Infantry, 5th Infantry Division, as an Automatic Rifleman, participating in the Rhineland, Ardennes, and Northern France campaigns. The Purple Heart Medal (PHM) was awarded September 22, 1944, near Metz, France; and he has also the European, African, Middle East Theater of Operations (ETO) Medal with three bronze stars, the American Theater of Operations Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal. P.F.C. Ivins was honorably discharged from the service on December 7, 1945, at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas.
